Although the surrounding area might have a bleak feeling to it, in the midst of all this is a safe haven for foodies, coffee fans and people just looking for a place to relax or get down to some work. October, unsurprisingly, is in the building with the big “10” on the side and situated on the first floor. In complete contrast to its exterior, inside October has a much warmer vibe with plenty of natural light thanks to its floor-length windows. A veranda and outdoor seating area would make this a great place to relax and get away from the bustle of downtown on a warm spring or summer’s evening.
Now is as good a time as any to start practising your Chinese since menus are without English. However, if you are able to work your way around this, you will be pleased with the variety of food October has to offer. Choose from a selection of soups, salads, pastas, pizzas and steaks that is bound to meet your needs. Pesto Pasta (38RMB), Lemon Chicken Salad (32RMB) and Seafood Pizza (68RMB) are just some examples of what this place has. On a chilly day, be sure to start with a hearty Bacon and Potato Soup (22RMB). Follow this up with a Veal Schnitzel (128RMB) or Fillet Steak, complete with Dauphinoise Potatoes (138RMB), and you are sure to leave satisfied. If you are feeling more adventurous, try the Goose Liver with Crusty Bread (118RMB). Set meals, which include appetizers and mains, are available starting from 198RMB for two people.
For those just in search of coffee and a place to unwind, October won’t disappoint. An assortment of coffees and imported coffee beans caters to all without breaking the bank (32RMB for a Cappuccino). They also have fruit juices, milkshakes and milk teas for non-coffee drinkers. Imported beers and wines are on hand as well but aren’t on the menu.
If you find yourself in the north of Hangzhou, be sure to check out this place. October is a restaurant that can be enjoyed any month of the year. Open from 10:00am to 8:30pm. Smoking is not permitted inside. Parking is available.
