With Myth Café closed down, Lotus has sprung up with, in the MORE team’s opinion, vastly improved food and décor. Lotus is located on Shuguang Road, next to Travelers Bar, and is on the second floor of a nice hostel. Double rooms are 258RMB, dorm beds are 60RMB, and while the rooms look comfortable, breakfast is not included, but it’s worth the extra expense, because the food here is really solid.
For those of you looking for a good all-day breakfast place, Lotus has you covered. Their Big American Breakfast (32RMB) seems to be the big winner. It’s two eggs, hash browns, bacon, toast, and coffee. They also have a “Great British Breakfast” for 56RMB, and omelets for 25RMB. We tried the Mexican Breakfast Burrito (32RMB) and were largely impressed, though next time we will request extra crispy bacon.
For lunch, they have sandwiches, salads, soups, and pizza. We tried the Margarita Pizza (48RMB), and while it will not win any awards in Hangzhou’s pizza market, it was made fresh and very satisfying. Pastas range from 38-45RMB and if the baked tuna macaroni 38RMB was any indication, they will all be delicious. Be sure to try the potato croquettes 25RMB for the table to share. They are a great starter, and beat the pants off of french fries any day.
Finally, their main dishes are anchored by steaks from 88-115RMB, chicken dishes at 48RMB, and pork chops from 48-58RMB. We tried the cheeseburger meal (45RMB), which is two cheeseburgers and fries, and it was fantastic. We also tried their excellent pork wiener schnitzel (48RMB), served with a salad and mashed potatoes. They have a few other German options available, as well as fish and chips.
Coffees are a house specialty. An Americano runs you 19RMB, while a latte, mocha, or cappuccino cost 38RMB. Fruit juices and soft drinks are also available. They do not have a full bar, but they have a few standard beers between 25-48RMB. Wi-Fi is available and the seating is very comfortable. Big bay windows and deep couches make it a great place to get some work done or read after breakfast.
