Spring has sprung, or so it seems here in Hangzhou, which means it's that time of year again to check out the plum blossoms. There are several places around town to soak in the beauty, but the choicest spots are here at the Botanical Gardens. There are three areas to take a gander at this springtime wonder: Watching Fish at Yuquan, Flowering Peach Garden and Admiring Plum Blossoms at Lingfeng, with the latter being the best place as there are around 5000 plum trees and 50 breeds of blossoms. But the Gardens are not just about the blossoms. Granted, the grass is still a depressing brown, and most of the trees have yet to clothe themselves again, but it is a great place to take a lover for a little privacy in the woods. And as the weather warms and the grass greens, you can enjoy a picnic or even a barbeque. It can be a bit confusing at first with all of the different gardens, and be warned that you have to buy tickets for each area, but at 10RMB or less, it's an affordable getaway into nature without having to get out of town.
