This isn’t so much a review, as it is a Public Service Announcement. We actually weren’t even going to write a review for this place, but thought, considering its location on Jiefang Road, right down by West Lake between Hubin and Yan’an, that it wouldn’t be right for us not to warn you. It’s just a few doors down from Starbucks and Burger King and looks really appealing from the outside, but like Pitcher Plants, looks can be deceiving.
This Malaysian franchise does to Ireland’s image, what the Great Famine did to Ireland: destroyed it. This place is so bad, were I Ireland’s ambassador in Malaysia, I would cut diplomatic ties until they removed the ‘Ireland’ from the name.
Three things you’ll notice about this place, but only after you’ve ordered:
1. It is absolutely filthy.
2. The staff is completely inept.
3. Said staff couldn’t care less about you or your order.
We spent 87RMB on 2 banal fruity drinks, their Signature Cheddar Cheese Chips, Tator Tots, and mashed potatoes topped with chili. The last two things we only ordered because, of the 60 things on the menu, those were the only ones available.
It took these clowns (3 of them) 20 minutes to make our order, which involves little more than deep frying. The chili mashed potatoes were about as aesthetically pleasing as a stool sample. Oh, and they give you those flimsy, plastic, coffee-stirrer spoons to attempt to eat it with. It’s like 2 slaps in the face. Next up were the tater tots, which were salted to near inedibility. We stood in horror watching the most competent of these stooges attempt to melt a block of cheddar cheese in the microwave (for 10 minutes), and then glop what looked like Silly Putty all over our fries, which, having been made-to-order 20 minutes prior, were cold and soggy.
So, basically we paid 87RMB to take one bite of everything they had available, and only did so because we’d already paid 87RMB. We work hard to find the positive in every place we review, and do our best to never write negative reviews, but Ireland’s Potato, is a disgrace you should avoid like the plague.
