Sometimes the journey is the most rewarding part of an adventure. In the case of Yinshang Fusion Restaurant, delicious food is still the primary goal, but getting there will be part of the experience.
As it is located up scenic Hupao Road across from the Children's Park, you may decide to reward a beautiful bike ride with an equally satisfying meal. Or perhaps you will hop on one of many bus routes to the Hangzhou Zoo. The MORE crew drove and easily found roadside parking. We were rewarded with a comfortable and inviting restaurant, unique Southeast Asian fare, and good value for the money. Three floors of dining offer outdoor and indoor seating options, and plenty of private tables for medium-sized parties. To really impress visitors, call ahead and reserve the top floor with a balcony, private bathroom, and small lounge area. We sat outside near a koi pond.
The extensive menu is carefully hand-written on a chalkboard. No pictures or English, but the servers are patient and helpful. We decided to go heavy on the recommended dishes. First up was Yinshang Style Seafood Rice Soup (隐上泡饭 28RMB), which ended up being a unanimous favorite. The Braised Shrimp with Basil and Pepper (九层塔胡椒虾 48RMB) was another crowd pleaser. They also offered a unique take on the standard Sweet and Sour Pork with Plum Sauce (桂花梅汁咕噜肉 36RMB), and it proved to be so good, we almost ordered one to go. They offer several curries and we chose the Portuguese Style Curry Crab (葡园咖喱蟹 69RMB/small, 128RMB/big). We are tough critics when it comes to curries, and while the flavor and spice levels were good, we are looking forward to trying beef or shrimp next time. Other notable dishes include Thick Tofu Soup with Crab Meat (纸锅蟹肉豆腐 38RMB), Braised Pork with Bread (夹馍红烧肉 48RMB), Home Style Tofu Skin Rolls (家乡腐皮卷 15RMB), Shrimp Dumplings (水晶虾饺 22RMB/four) and to wash it all down, some refreshing Kumquat Tea (青桔茶 48RMB/pitcher). The final bill came to 416RMB for the four of us, a solid value considering the ambiance and quality of the meal.
