The renovation of Baishaquan has caused many of our beloved restaurants to close down temporarily. Some will reopen soon, and some have found new locations. We are happy to report that Sichuan Pickle Restaurant has re-located not far away, to Tangmiao Road off Wantang Road.
Sichuan Pickle Restaurant started in 2001 in a dingy little restaurant in the back alleys of Baishaquan. With its low prices and authentic tasting dishes and spices flown in from Sichuan province, the restaurant quickly gained a loyal following and eventually grew to five branches around Hangzhou.
All the Sichuan classics are here: spicy Mapo Dofu (麻婆豆腐, 12RMB), the sweet and slightly sour Kung Pao chicken (宫保鸡丁, 28RMB), Numb Spicy Fish (麻辣鱼, 68RMB) with soft fish slices in a big soup pot with chilies and Sichuan peppercorns and Dan Dan Mian (担担面, 10RMB) spicy noodles with minced meat. There are also non-spicy dishes, like the Preserved Meat Flavoured Mashed Potatoes (腊味土豆泥， 22RMB) which is a yummy mix of green onions, mashed potatoes and a meat that tastes like bacon.
