The Tea Boutique Hotel on Qingzhiwu has recently opened a western restaurant on its top floor. As the name suggests, there’s a large outdoor roof garden patio with a gorgeous view of the surrounding greenery. When you step out of the elevator onto the 4th floor, you immediately enter the restaurant. To the right you’ll see an open kitchen with chefs at work, and towards the left is the indoor dining area with white table clothes and formal seating.
Instead of an àla carte menu, everyday a set menu is served for lunch and dinner,with the menu changing daily. The food style is similar to Hong Kong’s version of western food but with French fine dining presentation.
On the day we visited, the set menu began with anItalian Minestrone soup that had agood tomato flavour and was accompanied by a side of garlic toast.It was followed up with a clean tasting celery salad in light Chinese soy sauce dressing and pumpkin and milk jelly.
For the Shrimp Curry with French Cod, the deep-fried cod fish was too oily, but the yellow curry sauce for the shrimp was rich with spices and fragrant with coconut milk. The Fried Chicken was quite similar to Cantonesecrispy fried chicken where the chicken is first poached then deep fried so that the meat is soft and juicy and the skin is very crispy.
The Beef with Special Sauce is tender with a fatty layer,but more sauce over the beef would have been nicer. The beef sat over a square of deep fried fuzhu, then came soba noodles with a hot and sour sauce.
For dessert, we had the very typical Hong Kong dessert Chilled Mango Sago Cream with Pomelo.The pomelo was shredded into little strands that you can easily mix into the mango sago cream.
Until the end of April, the promotional price for the set menu is 198RMB. Afterwards, the regular price is 238RMB.
