Middle East restaurants in Hangzhou have always been ephemeral. One day, you may find a great kebab place then a few months later it’s vanished into thin air. Being lovers of food from that region, we’re always on the lookout for the next new restaurant to satisfy our shawarma and falafel cravings. Enter Pita’s & Tika’s to fill the void!
Opened by Rajni and Mona, the two Indian ladies that brought us Zen Spa, Pita’s & Tika’s is located next to Zen Spa in Binjiang opposite Fanny’s Irish Pub and Binjiang Angelo’s. Not only do they serve Middle East food such as shawarma, falafel, hummus and baba ghanoosh, but there’s also scrumptious Indian delights like Chicken Tikka, Paneer Tikka, minced lamb Seekh Kebab and Biryani.
They offer 3 different kinds of falafels – Original, American Cheesy and Mexican. We liked the Original Falafel (35RMB) for its punchy hot sauce. Their Chicken Biryani (45RMB) had long grained basmati rice redolent with fragrant Indian spices and came with a side of cool cucumber yogurt raita. Their paneer is freshly made then marinated in yogurt and grilled, coming in the Paneer Tikka Wrap (40RMB) or as an entrée (45RMB) with onions and coriander mint sauce.
The Baba Ghanoush with Pita (28RMB) eggplant dip was wonderfully creamy and smoky with crispy bits of red, yellow and green bell peppers. The Tabbouleh Salad (40RMB) was a fresh mix of bulgur grains, tomato, onion and parsley.
For drinks, there are the usual soft drinks, iced tea, milkshakes and also Masala Tea (12RMB) and Mango Lassi (20RMB).
Pita’s & Tika’s makes a tasty, healthy and inexpensive option for a quick casual meal. They can deliver for free within 5km on orders over 100RMB. I might have said this before, but I’m really starting to envy the residents of Binjiang!
