This gorgeous upscale French dining experienceoffers a new set menu, an extravaganza that any serious foodie will adore.
Upon revisiting this fabulous dining concept we were pleased to see all the luxury and attention to detail that we have come to expect since their opening. The name is of course based upon the iron cocotte, which is a French heatproof dish. The small iron cocotte here is made by the notable Staub Company. These lovely iconic dishes can be purchased in the restaurant, and they play a starring role in their show room. Their newest addition is a set menu for six or more guests who may partake in the privacy of their showroom, awayfrom the rest of the bustling restaurant. For 498RMB (+10% service charge) per-person, parties of six or more can experience an eight-course menu that includes: bruschetta, beef tartare with garden salad, pan seared foiegras with caramelized apple, beef consommé, cod fillet with mango sauce, pan fried watermelon, and Australianwagyu rib eye steak, alland finished with raspberry mousse and crème brûlée. The beef tartare, foisgras, cod fillet with mango, and fried watermelon will be prepared in the kitchen demo area in front of your group.
I could wax lyrical about the beef consommé. The delicate broth bursting with beef flavor was perfect with a delicate poached quail egg, cheese ravioli, and small organic mushrooms. The char on the rib eye expertly complimented the tender medium rare steak. But don’t assume that only the meat was worth raving about. The cod fillet with mango sauce was ethereal; crisp skin and tender flesh nestled in a sea of bright orange, spiced mango sauce.
There are few dining experiences in Hangzhou on par with La Cocotte. This would be a wonderful option for a business dinner, or for a proper holiday feed. It is worth mentioning that their regular menu is enticing as well, so should you be short of a six pack you can still enjoy an equally fabulous meal.
There is both lunch and dinner service, but a reservation must be made for their special set menu -- and a minimum of six people is required. While alcohol and beverages are not included in the set menu, any reader of MORE will receive a complimentary glass of wine or coffee.
Smoking is not allowed, but parking is available.
