For a few months now we've been bringing you the latest and greatest Binjiang has to offer. This month we're at it again, and it might just be enough to get some northerners to look south, leprechaun-green with envy.
For a long time a certain bar has laid claim to the only Irish Pub in Hangzhou - cue a suitably Irish Jig. But fortunes change and, as luck would have it, there is a charming new Irish Pub in Binjiang.
Located directly next to Angelo's in the Tian Hong Jun Yi complex, the name Fanny's might get a few yanks and limeys tittering. So if you are thinking of a comically, heavily-themed Irish venue, think again. With not a single musical instrument tied to the wall, Fanny's has taken a much more mature route regarding decor. Gone is the vague Irish paraphernalia hanging in the eaves, instead a long wooden bar and comfy seating welcomes you to a large space that still manages to feel quite personal. Dark greens, brick walls, and expanses of wood replicate a traditional Irish pub. If you can remember Hangzhou's bitter winters in the current spanking hot weather that is, a 'working' fire place is also a nice addition.
Big screen televisions and projector (satellite and IP channels) cater to sports aficionados, whilst the full-size pool table, foosball, and dart board provide entertainment for those wanting to wager more on their own skill.
Officially Fanny’s is in soft-open mode, the menu is still being finalized, but we have been assured of good prices covering the likes of; pizza, pasta, burgers, Irish stew, and yes, a Dublin Fry breakfast! The owners Julia and Mark are very open to suggestions, so it may just be that a Sunday Roast could even be in the cards if enough interest is voiced.
With Tiger on tap (26RMB), a selection of bottled beers (25-60RMB), wines (38RMB and up) and full range of spirits (28RMB and up), it's obviously the draught Guinness at 60RMB a scoop that fully gives Fanny’s their Irishness. The current Happy-Hour starts at a 'Top o' the morning to yer' 11:00 a.m., meaning you can get 2 for 1 on all drinks throughout the day until 8:30pm. At which point quite frankly you will probably need to slow down anyway.
It is great to see Binjiang developing and the entertainment scene maturing across all Hangzhou, so go along and support Fanny's and you'll come away with a hop in your step or hiccough in your stumble.
