Renowned as one of the two greatest human-made structures in China, the Grand Canal is the longest artificial waterway in the world. Begun in the 5th century AD, the 1,794 kilometer canal makes its way through four provinces and links up five great rivers. There's no English yet, but you can make the museum part of a half-day Grand Canal tour along with the water bus, Qinsha Park and the hutong Tong He Li (cross Gongchen Bridge). Catch the water bus on North Huangcheng Road (across from Hangzhou Tower) and ride it all the way to the end. Busses: K861, K47, K70.
