Flower Story is a nicely appointed café located on the Zhongshanzhong Road pedestrian walking street, just a few doors down from Perfect Coffee (also reviewed in this issue). It offers up 3-stories of comfortable seating, lots of Chinese-language periodicals people pretend to read when people want other people to think they’re well-to-do sophisticates, some tasty food, and a small but thoughtful selection of imported beers, namely Franziskaner and Delirium Tremens for 48RMB. On our trip we ordered their Rose Tea 46RMB, which was sweet, fragrant, and pleasing to the palate. Our American Coffee (36RMB/200ml cup) was more like one big cup of espresso. If you need a pick-me-up, this will do it, unless you need to perform surgery, fix watches, or shave microns off of graphene, because you’re going to have the shakes for a while after this cup of high-octane gut fuel. To soak up some of the caffeine we ordered their Popcorn Chicken (26RMB), Fried Shrimp (26RMB), and Tomato, Egg, and Beef Rice (46RMB), all of which was good, but nothing to write home about. If a relaxing, yet classy, ambiance is what you’re looking for, Flower Story delivers. Free Wi-Fi. No English Menu.
